Big hello to all the Twitter followers who have joined me over the last few years. Back when I started @wrestlingfan there was very little wrestling news and information on Twitter. Now the Twitterverse is full of it.
This brings me to the point of the state of @wrestlingfan. I’m tired. I don’t know how many of you have noticed, but I haven’t posted here at Tumblr or posted directly to the Twitter feed in a while now. This doesn’t mean I don’t care about it anymore. In fact I would love to start a discussion about the appearance of Evan Borne, Jack Swagger, and Mark Henry on Raw last night. BUT I just don’t see the interaction from the Twitter feed like I use to.
If you are a long time follower you’ll remember me talking about dropping autofollow because of all the bots and spammers following. Even though I dropped autofollow, the bulk of the followers are still bots and spammers. It’s almost not worth it.
I said almost. There are a few of you following who get what Twitter is about, conversation. I really want to thank each and every one of you. You make operating @wrestlingfan worth while.
Now what am I leading to?
I’m dropping all of the news feeds. You can easily get TNA, ROH, UFC, and WWE directly from the source now on Twitter. You don’t need me to feed these headlines anymore.
Also, I’m sick of those people abusing Retweet. I can’t follow any @ conversations because of all the RT noise. Retweeting is a great thing on Twitter. It’s how news spreads. There is a limit though. You don’t RT everything from somebody. Basically you are stealing their Twitter post and call it your own. Not cool.
And that brings me to my final point.
When I started @wrestlingfan I wanted to share news with people, and then discuss it with them. Unfortunately, my fault mostly, @wrestlingfan devolved into a news bot just feeding headlines from multiple sources. In the end @wrestlingfan just became something like Google Reader. I hate that, and I’ve had enough of it.
So the auto posting of feeds have to go.
If the feeds I provided were the only reason you were following @wrestlingfan, just look around you’ll find a replacement. Feel free to unfollow @wrestlingfan. I won’t take it personally. In fact at the end of this post, I’ll post some other Twitters for you to follow for news.
For those of you who want to have a conversation about what we all love, wrestling. I look forward to chatting with you.
From now on everything posted to @wrestlingfan is from me, a fan. As it should be.
